Gating and booming off the area was created by Dianndra
In light of the recent and quite devastating crime spree in the area, talks of gating and booming off the area have begun. This action has helped many other communities experiencing similar streaks of violence and terror.
The SAR, security access restriction, policy contains the rules and regulations by which gating or booming off an area is governed. We must comply fully with this policy in order to enjoy a legally gated and boomed suburb.
The policy has several main points which are as follows:
o Access may not be denied to any person, nor may you search their vehicles.
o The intention to action the SAR must be announced in a local paper.
o 67-85% of residence must be for the implementation.
o The application must be done on behalf of the community- therefore an NPO will be registered and a bank account opened.
o Cost of gates and booms is for resident’s account as well as the security company.
o Booms must be manned by a registered security company.
o Gates must have operating hours – i.e 6am-8:30am and 4pm-5:30pm
o Gates and booms must not restrict emergency vehicles, garbage trucks, SAPS or council employees.
o Pedestrian gates to be at all access points.
o Councilor’s support is preferred.
The application process is lengthy and rigid but it is my strong belief that we should not take any short-cuts but rather do everything above board and properly.
The authorization must be renewed every two years; therefore doing things in accordance with the policy can also ease the re-application process.
I encourage each member of the community to read through the policy and contribute in any way they can. Please also ensure that you sign the confirmation for the implementation of the SAR; should you be against the idea please contact me to discuss your concerns.
